Organic Won't Kill You
Food that won't kill you… Hey, that's always a perk! While pesticide exposure through food, water, air, and rain won't send you to your grave overnight, mounting scientific evidence shows pesticides' links to everything from cancer and Parkinson's to lupus, obesity, and diabetes.
The facts: More than 17,000 pesticide products are on the market, yet the Environmental Protection Agency has required testing for less than 1 percent of chemicals currently used in commerce. Even tiny amounts of America's most popular weed killer glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, can damage DNA and kill cells, and has been linked to infertility and certain cancers. In addition, the Institute found that soil health in organic systems improves over time, whereas chemically treated soil remains unchanged. Healthier soil produces healthier food.
